Meet Luna

Luna Love, the story of Maggie and Luna

Luna was home at Pretty Horse’s Rescue of Baja long before I made my way there. She was rescued off the slaughter truck with her young daughter and brought to Pretty Horse’s Ranch to care for her baby and live her best life in this loving sanctuary. I found her here, in August of 2018. She was spunky, full of lunar energy, and I loved it. I was looking for a horse to push me out of my comfort zone, one that would teach me and test me. As I began working with Luna and Krystal at Pretty Horse’s Rescue, I dove into the understandings of energy connection. She could read me. Luna could sense my emotions, there was no hiding from this sensitive sage. She knew what I was feeling and thinking better than I did. So, here is my arena. I learned Equine therapy techniques as a way of bonding with a horse and building awareness of your own internal state. There is a depth of trust that must be forged when working with 1/2 ton wild animal, and this was something we must build this together.

At first, I didn’t know what I was doing, and Luna knew it. She wouldn’t cross the gate without spinning around to get back to her trusted herd and people. We would make it 100 yards and she would turn around. With guidance from the PHR community, time, connection, love, trust, compassion, and commitment we forged our bond. I learned the importance of ground work, and proving to Luna I was a trusted leader. I learned the importance of consistent, clear communication. I learned to release my fears, insecurities, and anxieties to prove to Luna I could be her confident leader. Luna slowly let down her guard, I softened my hands, and together we taught each other the beauty of trust and connection. She is my Luna Love and I am forever grateful for all she has taught me.

Thank you, Krystal and Pretty Horse’s Rescue for your act of compassion and love in rescuing Luna. Pretty Horse’s Rescue of Baja is truly a sanctuary for animals and humans. The love and care for these animals is felt the moment you arrive. Many of the animals brought to PHR are malnourished and mistreated, with a compassionate approach Krystal creates a loving, soft and trusting animal. Forever grateful for the sanctuary of Pretty Horses Rescue.
